Listing the bars of Pattaya
The following reviews are those that I come across on
the web, in guide books, from contributors and of course from my own
visits. Reviewers may be unreasonably harsh and bar owners may present a
rosy picture of their bars...so don't take everything at face value...go
and see for yourself.

News Dec 2006: Going Up
Now 600 Baht all in
Review by Swanks, Sept 2006: Best
Bargain in Patts
Sometimes a bar "Comes into its own" Almost by accident really!
Billion suddenly has been transformed from a 'no hoper' into a very nice
and welcoming watering hole! I do suspect it is more by accident than
design, but it really has a lot going for it now!
Drinks are not 'rock bottom' but ok! Lady drinks not anywhere near
Walking street prices!
But the policy of just charging 500 baht at the bar for girl and room
must make them one of the best bargains in Patts! Tip the girl if you
want to but it doesn't seem to be expected and the girls are just as good as anything I have seen on Soi 6!
The whole place has a nice 'Pub' atmosphere and you can enjoy a relaxing
drink at the bar and chat to the 'Chinese' owner and mamasan, and stroke
her small dog which often sleeps on the counter! The mutt has an uncanny
facial resemblance to her but don't tell her I said so!
If it gets on your nerves, sort of, give it a bit of a shove! Just tell
mamasan it fell! Lands on all 4 paws like a cat!
I'm going to get the little sod pissed next week! It's sort of taken
to me now so it should be a laugh!
Enjoy!

It itself a gogo but the dress code is coyote, with skirts, knickers,
tops and bras. Beware of expensive draft beer
Review June 2008: Gone Coyote
The bar calls itself a gogo but the Thai-Anxiety definition of a gogo
is that there should be dancing girls wearing bikinis or preferably
less. This bar no longer qualifies as all the girls wear skirts,
knickers, tops and bras. The style is Britney Spears school wear which
my provide some recompense for the lack of showing.
The dancers were a little below average. There were about 20 girls in
the bar of which 4 or 5 were dancing on stage.
The beer price was way above average at 100 Baht for a glass surely
smaller than a bottled beer. Strangely the other drinks prices are not
so expensive with most choices being in the 100-120 Baht range. There is
a happy hour for afternoon drinkers though until 6pm
There were a fair number of customers in the bar so all can't be too
bad. But nobody made much effort to get me to stay very long. I probably
had a scowl on my face from the 100 Baht draft beer.
Review by polleke Oct 2007:
Consistent
The bar seems to be very stable and seems to hang in
The bar still remains the same, although I found an improvement on
the line-up since my last visit. There were plenty of average girls and
a couple of better looking ones.
Not so many customers.
My friends loved the place, especially the schoolgirls outfits. The
girls were very friendly and up for a chat and a bit hands on fun.
Just a well run agogo and one of the longest running ones in Patts.
I myself was remembered by a girl I barfined 7 months ago. Those girls
have long memories.
Review Aug 2007:
Going Strong
The bar seems to be very stable and seems to hang in
there despite not keeping up with the opposition. There are no Jacuzzis,
no table dancing stages, no shows, no nudity and no touchy feely girls.
However the bar maintains a cast of about 25 girls
that shuffle in shirts and skirts. There were 5 girls on stage making
for a 5 song dancing stint for each girl.
There were some attractive girls amongst the dancers
and they would eventually make contact with the customers. Although it
did seem that they preferred to conclude their chat with fellow dancers
first.
Drinks prices are on the high side considering the
lack of entertainment on offer.
The bar is decorated with military emblems and badges
so presumably it comes into its own during the likes of Cobra Gold.
I m not really sure why but I guess the bar will still
be going strong when others fall by the wayside.

Bugle Dec 2006:
Lucky 13
Classroom celebrated 13 years in business on 1 December. It kicked
off as a single shophouse and used to be packed most nights. The
schoolgirl uniform theme was a hit with most punters. Mr Scot has been
at the helm of the meeting and greeting duties in the Classroom since
the beginning, making him one of the longest-serving managers in
Pattaya.
Review Dec 2006:
Overdressed
The bar features gogo girls with the most clothes in all of Pattaya.
The uniform consists of shirt, bra, substantial skirt and
knickers. It must be the only bar where the girls don't have to don a
t-shirt to visit the nearby food stands.
The girls dance 4 or 5 at a time on a central stage. There was an
absence of pretty girls but there weren't many that you would run away
from. There were probably about 20 girls in the bar.
The decor is dark and the walls are adorned by military
paraphernalia, badges, crests, emblems & jokes.
The bar was not quite as quiet as I had expected, nor were the drinks
prices quite as I high as I had feared.
Actually if the girls were to take off a few clothes then the venue
may be worth another visit...but I feel this will make for a long wait

Dining, music and German brewhouse without hostesses.
Review from Pattaya Talk
May 2007: Bit Expensive
I fancied a nice bit of grub one night so I treated me and Missus to
a meal in Hopf.
Glad to see it's not a gay bar anymore. Steak was nice and service
excellent. Bit expensive but worth a go and Pizza's and Knuckle ham
looked lovely.
From Steve, Nov 2006: Discriminatory Policies
I’ve been eating in the Hopf Brauhaus on Beach Road for four years.
The place has an interesting pseudo-gothic interior decoration. The food
comes in large portions and is good quality, though hardly gourmet (and
they totally overdo the tomatoes in/on just about everything!). The
staff are efficient and mostly quite friendly.
However, I recently took a friend who has a foot deformity there to eat.
To cut a long story short, he was denied entry because he didn’t have
what they deemed to be ‘proper’ footwear. What did they expect? He can’t
wear normal shoes. Anyway, after discussing this with one of the senior
waiters that I knew (one of the guys wearing a green jacket), he stood
by the doorman’s decision to refuse my friend entry.
I was so damned embarrassed by this. My friend seemed to blame himself
for us being refused entry. He was almost in tears as we went off to
Pizza Hut to eat. What could I do? It was my stupid idea to take him
there as I had always liked the place before this incident. In spite of
the Hopf brauhaus being one of the largest and evidently most prosperous
restaurants in Pattaya, it has no wheelchair access either.
So be warned, avoid the place if you have a physical handicap.
Personally I have decided that I will never eat there again, they made
me feel so small. Up to you if you want to support a restaurant with
these discriminatory policies.
From
Jil in Pattaya,
June 2006: Italian tenor
We met up with Rick and Da at the Hopf Brewery on Walking Street at
11:00 on Saturday night. Why? Because it is only on Saturdays when one
of the owners, Enzo, gets up on stage to sing: Yes, Pattaya's only
Italian tenor cum human beat box. He really is exceptional, and the
place just goes wild when he sings.
The Hopf Brewery still has great beer. Order their home-brewed wheat
beer and at 11:00, enjoy the show.
Summer 2005: No Smoking
Seems popular with the Asian tour parties probably because this is one
of the few bars that don't focus on female companionship.
The live band are competent and play the usual pop/rock material but
they feature a jazzier treatment than most.
The beer is good but a little expensive.
I found the metal detector search on entry a little off putting, it
makes you wonder if they have something to fear from protection
racketeers or thugs. Maybe they working with a thought to further royal
vistors. Smoking is prohibited.

Coyote dancing bar
News from the
Asia
Bugle
Hotties Club is a coyote dance club situated at the back of the
new beer bar complex located almost opposite Mike Shopping Mall on
Second Road.
The place is owned by the well-known Khun Lek, the operator of the
similar Honeypot and long-running Classroom 2000 gogo.
There is a friendly foreign manager, a live band playing good older
popular music, a DJ who also spins discs that would be familiar to most
people, and, most importantly, plenty of ladies. Most are friendly and
interact with the customers. Libations are reasonably priced with house
spirits at 95 baht.

Moulin Rouge Bar
aircon bar
Review by Swanks, Feb 2007: Petting Area
The Mullen Rouge is one of those bars that sort of 'puts you off'
visiting. It has too much frontage and the open sliding doors stop it
from having a cosy feel so I just walked past on previous occasions.
It happens, even in Patts. That moment your eyes meet for a split
second, no words but you know you'll get on fine!
I was escorted by the lovely Meow to sit at the bar and we enjoyed a
chat and a cuddle. I bought her a lady drink so, fore play over we set
off to look at the accommodation.
This being the equivalent of a long engagement here! What they fail to
tell you is there is an area (petting area really. This is Patts) on the
first floor with a balcony overlooking the bar. It's much more
comfortable so I would recommend taking your drink and your lady to this
half way house when you go there.
The fragrant 'Meow' was indeed a master of her craft and likes her
customers to just lie back and enjoy the experience. She licks, nibbles
and kisses everywhere before putting on the life-jacket and getting down
to business.
There are just so many pretty girls in this bar and the only down side
was she was not up for a threesome which is unusual as half the work and
Brownie points with a mate usually win. 500 Baht for her and 200 Baht (Yes 200) for bar fine and room.
I went back the next day for another go and it was even better!

From
Pattaya
Secrets, Oct 2005:
Cutey
Most of the girls in front were rather old and not that good looking.
I really didn't expect much as I walked in and they all cheered and the
girls in the bars on either side let out a little cry. I sat down and a
surprisingly cute little thing kneeled down in front of me and gave me
the usual what would you like to drink.
3 Tigers later I found my nerve to head upstairs still not sure what
to expect in the upstairs bar. Walking into the little upstairs bar no
one was in there but us, which relieved me. I sat on a bar stool, which
as she got into it was a mistake because the seat top wasn't bolted to
the legs and it slid around a lot. I waived her to stop and to head over
to the chairs, right at that moment standing there with my hard on
another girl walked in to sit behind the counter, I stood there for a
moment confused and the little cutey that I never got her name just
pulled me to a seat where she recommenced her incredibly poor blow job.
At that moment 3 more girls and 3 really, I mean really old guys
walked in with them and they just dropped trousers without a care. The
wrinkly old man sack actually killed my viagra fueled hard on instantly.
Knowing there was no way in Hell I was going to blow after that sight. I
pulled my pants up. I ran to the counter, paid and got out of there as
fast as I could.
October 2005:
350 Baht for BBBJCIM in upstairs bar. 600 Baht for
half hour BJ in private room
2004 from
www.PattayaLovers.com:
Warning
An
interesting (actually scary) situation occurred during my last trip. Like
everyone else, I have my our daily routine, which included foot massage,
dick massage (Soi BJ) etc...among other things. So one day I entered pump
station and befriended a US airforce pilot on his 3-day break. He was new
to the scene and we chatted for a while and ended up choosing a girl each
and walked upstairs.
We got seated pants down and were
being cleaned when I got this sudden doubt about this 'girl's gender. I
wondered out this out loud to him...Before I warned him he has to be
careful how he handles the retreat given that we are locked inside a small
dark upstairs room (in my case had my passport with me since I had just
cashed my TC, he demanded (although politely) that his lady prove her
gender. She proceeded to pull his hand towards her fully covered
chest...but both of us were unconvinced. The obvious next demand followed
at which point, the Katoey got up, got hold on the solid ash-tray and
hurled it towards me. Yes me! My girl had just begun her act down below
and this flying ash-tray in my direction shrunk my dick in a fraction of a
second ;-) I ducked, got up and walked backwards (still with my pants
down)...At this point my shocked new-friend held tried to restrain the
katoey who was charging angrily towards me with little success. Mind you
we were the only two guys in this upstairs dark room.
Long story cut short...I managed to
shield myself with this pilot friend, the katoey still trying to 'kill'
me. I believe that at the moment since she was unwilling to reason,
negotiate (we both offered her several hundred dollars, even thousands but
to no avail)...Somehow we managed to get downstairs still walking
backwards until we got to the main bar. At which point I got a little bold
and we tried to complain to the mamasan. She did nothing.

Review June 2006: Grandma Bar
Showing some enthusiasm after the recent rework
the bar have laid on half a dozen welcome staff. The pretty girls will
show you up the steps but that's as far as they go.
Once inside you will see plenty of small
tables, a pool table and a bar. There were about 15 girls dotted around
but I headed for the bar. I was only the second farang in the joint at
about 8pm
As soon as I located a stool, up popped a
granny who was older than my own. I tried to shake her off with such
subtle comments as "I don't want to talk you" but it made no impression.
She hung in there grimly whilst I downed my beer, and as fast as my legs
could take me I was out of there.
For fans of cold beer, the bar excels, mine was
frozen solid. They soon popped it in the microwave (or swapped it for
another) so no problems there. A bottled Tiger was 75 Baht.
Probably just bad luck but I do find it ego
sapping to be fobbed off with the oldies. It's as if all 15 girls looked
me over and decided that my ugliness was best matched by the wooden
spoon. I go to Pattaya to live the dream life, not to be reminded of
being old and ugly.
News, June 2006: Rooms Galore
The redevelopment has been completed. It is said
to look very good inside. The bar now has rooms available and there are
a lot of new girls.
Review November 2005: Bores Galore
Amazingly the bar employs several meeters and
greeters. They must spend their time saying hello and then goodbye just
a few minutes later.
The bar exudes boredom. There is pool table and
a few TVs. There are a few girls lounging around but they couldn't be
bothered to get up off their arses to say hello.
A bottle beer was 75 Baht. Money well wasted.

Reader review March 2007: Good Grub
I ate breakfast in the Sailor Inn twice in March 2007.
It was the best breakfast I've ever had anywhere in Thailand in more
than 20 years of coming back to The Land of Smiles. The meals were
enormous and delicious as well as great value.
I highly recommend this place for grub.

Shenanigans

Shenanigans
Irish themed restaurant without hostesses. Originally located in
Marriott hotel but crossed the road to The Avenue Mall in mid 2007.
Review from
Jil in Pattaya,
Nov 2007: Pretty Place
The new space is really quite nice, with tons of wood finish, a
tiled floor, and very high quality furnishings. Although any
connection to Ireland and the atmosphere of an Irish pub is completely
gone, it is a pretty place. There is also outdoor seating, located out
in front of the restaurant.
The interior of Shenanigans is very nice but not particularly Irish. I
really didn't even look at the menu, except to get an idea of the
prices: It seemed that the majority of dishes were in the 300-350 baht
range... a bit pricey, but for an upscale non-fancy place like this,
it's about average.
Instead, I went for the Friday-night special: All you can eat bar-be-que
ribs for 295 baht... which is really a pretty good deal. The ribs were
great... I also had a pint of Kilkenny for 220 baht.
The total bill for 5 people came to 2700 baht, which is about average
for Pattaya upscale tourist-focused locations like this. I really
wouldn't recommend Shenanigans over a more homey place like the Pig &
Whistle on Soi 7, or The Queen Vic on Soi 6... but it's a nice enough
place to take out-of-towners for dinner before starting a night out in
Pattaya.
Review Summer 2005: Up Market
It does some excellent
traditional meals although these are on the pricy side for Pattaya.
Sunday lunch accompanied by sport on TV seems well popular.
Perhaps a
little bit of an up market crowd though. The bar always seems to feature
in the company parties that provide posed pictures of socialites in the
local press. |

Review from Pattaya Secrets,
July 2007: Comfortable Start
Very relaxing early evening atmosphere with 45Baht
Heinekens. The Music is mellow and numerous Fans keep it very
comfortable. The girls leave you alone unless you are looking. If you
want a low key comfortable start to the evening this is the perfect
place.
September 05: Place to Chill
If you want a place to chill , beer 45
baht 5-7pm then 50 baht all night try Wonderful 1. Always a lot of
Brits in there...always my starting point anyways.
There is band that
generally start at 9pm. Many of the 30 or so girls are acceptable.

December 2005:
Well worth while dropping by in the happy hour ( ie any datime hour
until 7pm). The prices are very reasonable.
There is always fun to be had with the the easiest of opening gambits
being a challenge to a game of Connect 4. For 40 Baht a daytime drink
you can't go too far wrong
October 2005:
The centrepiece is a large bar, in which a dozen or so girls are
usually hanging around waiting for a game of Connect 4. The best seats
hug the bar, but there are also sofas and outside seating. Service here
is fast and friendly, with the girls keen to chat without being pushy.
It's a big bar, so there's never a feeling of being crowded. TV screens
hang in each corner. With black walls and bright red and yellow
lighting, it has a club-cum-warehouse feel.
To the back of the bar is a pool table and more seating.
July 2005:
A great place to have a few 'happy hour' beers
in the afternoon and a good last stop place at night before calling it a
night. As an extra bonus, several good looking girls available for take
out.
Their band's are not bad

Review from Tony, Feb 2008: A
Good Local
A really good local beer bar and an ideal place to meet up to start
your day or night off. Run by three solid Yorkshire lads who know all
the ropes of Pattaya and are more than willing to pass their advice on.
If golf's your thing then its even better. They organise golf days
and even lay on the mini bus service at a far cheaper rate than going
through an agent.
The pub is in a darts league and local matches abound. The rooms
upstairs are clean and spacious with satellite TV etc and are ideal if
your on a lads holiday.
Bar staff are nice and friendly but more importantly, honest. You can
also sort your airport taxi out from the bar. Just ask for Neil, Mick or
Eddie.

Notes |
|
Pattaya bars most likely to be listed are those that
occupy a permanent looking standalone building. Beer bars in
complexes will not be listed
unless mentioned in dispatches. Gay/Thai/Karaoke bars are not listed due
to a lack of expertise in those areas. Gogo bars are listed on a
separate page. I have added food reviews but
this is not a comprehensive service. I will only list eateries where
people have submitted comments
The following reviews are those that I come across on
the web, in guide books, from contributors and of course from my own
visits. Reviewers may be unreasonably harsh and bar owners
may present a rosy picture of their bars...so don't take everything at
face value...go and see for yourself. Click on the street name to obtain
a map of the bar area.
And a couple of words of warning:
-
In short time rooms...keep an
eye on your wallet to ensure that it stays with you long time.
-
To those with Thai wives, be aware of the motor
cycle taxi network used to keep tabs on errant husbands.

July 2007:
Short Time Edging Up
From
Pattaya Secrets
and tallies with my own observations
- Dancing Girl ... ST 1000 / LT 2000 (assuming good performance). I would suggest that you should be willing to add an extra
500 to the GoGo fee if you get stuck on a model class girl and
you find yourself unable to say no.
- Beer Bar Girl ... ST 500 / LT 1000 (quickie) to ST 700 /
LT 1500 (for an entire evening of effort)
- Street Freelancer ... ST 500 / LT 1000 (no questions, no exceptions)
- Short Time Bar Girl... Traditionally ST 500 with 250 for the room (+ small
tip for good service) but now edging up to ST 700 and 300 for
the room
