Due to the rising frequency of hurnan-lion encounters, the Ministry of Fish and Wildlife, lnhambane Branch, Mozambique is advising hikers, hunters, Fishermen and any motorcyclists that use the out-of-doors in a recreational or work-related function to take extra precautions while in the bush.

We advise outdoorsmen to wear little noisy bells in clothing so as to give advanced warning to any lions that might be close by so you don't take them by surprise.

We also advise anyone using the out doors to carry Pepper Spray with him or her in case of an encounter with a lion.

Outdoorsmen should also be on the watch for fresh lion activity, and be able to tell the difference between lion cub droppings and adult lion droppings. Lion cub droppings is smaller and contains lots of berries and fur. Adult lion droppings has bells in it, and smells like pepper.

Farangland

5th July

Soon be time to head back to Farangland for a short while. But it seems a pretty depressing thing to think about at the moment.

I will have to buy a flak jacket to protect myself from the knife crime. I will have to raid the European Bank to be able to afford a weeks shopping at Tesco. And lord knows what the price of a beer will be...That's if there are any bars still open.

I am expecting the nth degree from the Tax man, I am expecting a letter box full of fines for not putting the rubbish out on the right day and a whole army of bureaucrats wondering where I have been for the last year.

And of course I am expecting my whole vacation to be filmed on CCTV and the DVD will be presented to me as I leave the country as a memento of my visit (for a small fee of course).

I wonder if they still say 'Welcome to Farangland' as a precursor to the interrogation by the border security agent.

2nd Date

4th July

I had a great evening chatting with Ann a couple of weeks ago and so I thought I would visit again.

But there wasn't anywhere near the spark of the previous visit.

I sought of realised why. When you meet with someone the first time, one can use all of ones database of jokes, observations and repartee.

On the 2nd date, I get the nagging thought that maybe I had used some of the lines before. I'd hate to sound like and old bore and repeat old tales.

Best to speak little and find other things to amuse oneself.

Thaksin's supporters regrouped under the banner People Power Party and won most seats at the general election. Negotiations ended up in a multi party coalition with a Thaksin friendly prime minister.

Democracy has returned to Thailand (but the military now has stronger powers to keep the country on its toes).
